The causes of prostatitis are always "on the surface" of the daily life of men and very rarely the disease occurs due to serious internal pathologies. Most often, the cause of prostatitis is a common infection of the urogenital system, which appeared from multiple sexual intercourse and from non-compliance with basic hygiene rules.
Prostatitis in men is an inflammation of the prostate gland. It is accompanied by many unpleasant subjective sensations and often disrupts a man's quality of life. Prevention has always been the most effective way to treat any disease, but to prevent and treat prostate inflammation properly, you need to know its causes.
Frequency of occurrence
According to statistics, prostatitis in men is one of the most common urological diseases. It occurs in men both at a young age and in the elderly. According to some observations, this disease occurs at least once in 30% of men from 30 to 40 years, in 40% - in the age of 40 to 50 years, and in 50% - in the age of over 50 years.
In recent years, for various reasons, the following trend has been observed: prostatitis begins to appear at a younger age. It is often the cause of male infertility.
The course of the disease
The clinical picture of prostatitis in men is different, it depends on the initial state of health in general and the immune system in particular, as well as on individual characteristics and lifestyle. The disease can develop asymptomatically for a long time at a young age, but in the end it will still manifest as difficulty urinating, sexual dysfunction or infertility.
There are two main types of prostatitis:
- Infectious.
- Congestive (non-infectious).
Based on this classification, all the causes of the development of prostatitis can also be divided into two groups: those that are a source of infection in the small pelvis and block the circulation of blood and lymph in the prostate gland.
Factors that cause acute inflammation
The acute process in men is clinically more intense, the symptoms develop suddenly and cause the most unpleasant subjective sensations. It is often accompanied by the appearance of high body temperature (38-39 ° C).
The most common causes of a pathological condition of this nature can be a urinary tract infection in the form of cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, as well as sexually transmitted diseases (especially in young people).
The most important etiological factors of the acute procedure:
- Escherichia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
- Klebsiella.
- Protea.
- Enterococci.
- Staphylococcal disease.
- Trichomonas.
- Gonorrhea.
Pathogenic bacteria from the intestine enter the prostate through the urethra and through the rectum. Also, these pathogens can be transmitted from partner to partner during sexual intercourse and when asked if prostatitis is sexually transmitted, one can answer that it is not the disease itself that is transmitted, but its pathogens.
What causes chronic inflammation?
The causes of the development of prostatitis in its chronic form can also be of infectious origin. But these are pathogens of different kinds, they cause an asymptomatic, hypotonic disease with a faint clinical picture. The temperature in chronic prostatitis is most often normal, rarely stable fever, not exceeding 37. 5 degrees. As a rule, unpleasant symptoms bother men during an outbreak of the disease.
The main reason for the transition of the acute form of the disease to chronic is the inappropriate treatment or its complete absence.
The typical causes of prostatitis in its chronic form are:
- Mycoplasmas.
- Chlamydia.
- Ureaplasma.
- Cytomegalovirus.
- Candida.
Sometimes bacteria or viruses enter the prostate through the bloodstream from other organs affected by the inflammatory process. And then this disease can occur due to tonsillitis, bronchitis, sinusitis or even caries.
Congestive prostatitis is most often chronic. The reasons for its appearance are caused by:
- Sedentary life.
- Prostate injury.
- Constipation.
- Sedentary work (especially cross-legged).
- Regular hypothermia or overheating of the pelvic area.
- Characteristics of the anatomical structure of the prostate and urethra.
- Frequent urinary retention.
- Bad habits (alcohol, smoking).
- Irregular sex life.
Separately, it must be said that the development of prostatitis can cause masturbation. In men, masturbation weakens the muscle tone of the prostate gland. As a result, it becomes flabby and lethargic, which clinically manifests with congestive prostatitis.
Masturbation also causes frequent hot flashes in the prostate area and, consequently, congestion in it. Mechanical trauma to the foreskin and foreskin of the penis can lead to the development of balanoposthitis. In this case, a direct path to the prostate through the urethra opens up for bacteria.
It is possible to choose an adequate treatment for prostatitis only when the causes that caused it are identified.
